When I was in my middle levels, someone kept trying me to join his guild, but I had no idea about guilds. Once I learned that guilds are orgranized groups of players helping each other out, I decided to try one out.
My first experience was a guild called Lights Divinity, but they were too chaotic and disorganized at the time. I left after just a few days.
My next guild was the White Dragons, which I remained in for a while. They were constantly trying to raid when I was on, and it was seriously eating into my XP time. Worse, the guild leadership had compulsory raid attendance that seemed to only benefiting the guild leaders. The final straw came during a Vindi raid. Someone who had tagged along managed to train Vindi on our guild, and it was a gruesome wipe (like many of our other Vindi attempts). The guy running the raid went off on him, and told him to get out of the raid. All fine and good, but he also refused to give him a port out, and in addition, told him that he would not be rezzed should he die running to the zone. He did indeed die, but I am not sure if he ever got his rez. So it all added up as time for me to move on. I heard that the guild broke apart soon after I left, although you can see a rare White Dragon now and then.
The next guild I joined was the Wings of Fury. Some very good folks, and a lot of good times. I spent some time in the role of Officer for this guild. The hardest blow to the guild came when the main guild cleric was sold through Ebay to another guild. It took the heart out of the guild, and it eventually disbanded.
The next guild Enlightened Tranquility. It was short lived but interesting. The guild reformed under new leadership with a new name, "Anarchic Insurrection" after Bobette retired, but I did not go along. I am not sure what became of them.
The next guild I joined was the Delusional Raiders. This guild was started by a handful of folks from our local area, and for a bit it seemed promising. Unfortunately, while the guild leader had to drop EQ to handle some work issues, the guild dried up.
A friend of mine was in Berserker's Fury, and I joined them for a bit. They are a good bunch of guys that are always doing something interesting. I wore the officer tag for a bit here, but I never have been much on recruiting. I did try to get some of my friends to join, but when my friends who were already in the guild left, I left too.
After that I was recruited into Moon and Sun. Many of these people were decent, hard playing players with high ideals. After a disagreement with the guild leader over 15 minutes of time, I've since left these folks as well. From what I hear, the guild leader went on to disband the guild. A shame.
I joined Last Paradise in the hopes of finding a friendly little guild, and they definitely fit the bill. Unfortunately, they were at the end of their lifespan, but the guild leader had a good idea, they merged into Atmosphere.
Atmosphere seemed like a great opportunity. I had met some very good players who wore that tag before that point. They seemed to be able to field a large raiding force, and take on some beefy targets. It soon became apparent they had a problem with raid attendance, and to 'improve' attendence, they ruled that if you are doing anything else during a raid time, you are out. We lost several good people through impusive use of /guildremove. I had given my opinion about this and some other topics a few times, but my opinions did not seem welcome, so it was time for me to move on.
I switched to a new character, and was grinding through the levels, and I received an invite to a friendly family guild called Elven Chivalry. The guild leader was on extended computer problem leave for the longest time, but in spite of that, this was a nice place to be for a while. Lots of good people, and more friendly than stressful. Some time after I had moved on to a raiding guild, the guild leader decided to move on to a different server, and disbanded the guild.
