RE: Missing Bill

I found this interesting email in my inbox. The folks I work with seem to have some fairly strong political beliefs, and are always going on back and forth with their points of view. I hate to see a good bit of research go to waste, so here it is, preserved with only the names and emails of the various folks involved snipped.

Tell your buddy to start checking facts and stop listening to Rush Limbaugh, he’s a drug addict anyway. Here are the FACTS to disprove his RHETORIC.  My comments in Red, FACTS in Black.

BTW: from Dictionary.com

FACT

n 1: a piece of information about circumstances that exist or events that have occurred; "first you must collect all the facts of the case" 2: a statement or assertion of verified information about something that is the case or has happened; "he supported his argument with an impressive array of facts"

RHETORIC

n 1: using language effectively to please or persuade 2: high flown style; excessive use of verbal ornamentation  3: loud and confused and empty talk; "mere rhetoric"

Josh, these are not from me but a response I received back from what you sent out earlier

Though I see why you all would complain about Clinton's track record:

Moving From Record Deficits to Record Surplus-

-IF THE GOVT IS IN A SURPLUS IT MEANS THEY HAVE TAKEN TOO MUCH OF YOUR MONEY THE US GOVT SHOULD NEVER EVER RUN AT A SURPLUS THEY ARE NOT A FOR PROFIT BUSINESS

It’s NOT profit. See below from Office of Management and Budget, as projected in 2000.

“If the Government incurs a surplus, it generally repays debt held by the public.”

Table 4–1 summarizes the relationship between the budget surplus and the repayment of Federal debt.

Paying Off the National Debt

THIS WAS PROVEN TO BE ACCOUNTING SUFFLES

Where? No it wasn’t. Prove that.

Public debt was $2.4 trillion lower in 2000 than was projected in 1993. Debt reduction brings real benefits for the American people -- a family with a home mortgage of $100,000 might expect to save roughly $2,000 per year in mortgage payments. Reduced debt also means lower interest rates and reduced payments on car loans and student loans.

Over 21 Million New Jobs

INTERNET BOOM THEAT HE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH-THE ECON WAS IN FULL RECOVERY BY THE END OF BUSH TERM AND IN A RECESSION  B THE TIME BILL LEFT SO HE HAD ACTUALLY RUN IT INTO THE GROUND

True the internet bubble inflated this, there has still been a sharp decline in jobs under Bush.

Under Bush's presidency, the unemployment rate has shot up from 4.2 percent in 2001 to 5.6 percent now, a 33 percent increase, and above the five percent rate that many economists consider to be the natural jobless rate.

The Washington-based Center for Economic and Policy Research estimates that at the current rate of job creation it will take two-and-a-half more years just to regain the jobs lost under the current administration.

The center also says that Bush could become the first president in more than 70 years to accumulate a net loss of jobs during his term.

Also, The recession began in March 2001, not during Clinton. When will GOP stop blaming Clinton for the recession and start taking responsibility.

NBER's committee determined in November 2001 that a cyclical peak had been reached in March 2001 and that a recession began in the same month (NBER has not declared an end to the recession.)

Fastest and Longest Real Wage Growth in Over Three Decades

THIS MEANS NOTHING

Sure it does, to the people making more money (typically hourly employees).

In 2000, average hourly earnings  increased 3.8 percent -- faster than the rate of inflation. The United States had five consecutive years of real wage growth -- the longest consecutive increase since the 1960s. Since 1993, real wages are up 6.5 percent, after declining 4.3 percent during the Reagan and Bush years. [National Economic Council, 6/00]

Unemployment Was Nearly the Lowest in Three Decades

AGAIN INTERNET BOOM

The internet boom was not responsible for everything. And the bust of the internet can be blamed on the industry itself, not the Administration. However, non-internet jobs grew as well, including minority gains:

African-American unemployment has fell from 14.2 percent in 1992 to 7.2 percent in April 2000 -- the lowest rate on record. The unemployment rate for Hispanics has fell from 11.6 percent in 1992 to 5.4 percent in April 2000 -- and also the lowest rate on record. For women the unemployment rate was 4.0 percent in April 2000-- the lowest since 1953. [National Economic Council]

Highest Homeownership Rate in History

THIS WAS DUE TO THE LENDING INDUSTRY GIVING ANY IDIOT A LOAN AND NOW WITH THE RATES AS LOW AS 4.5% SOME PEOPLE STILL CANT PAY BECAUSE THEY ARE LOSERS AND ARE BEING FOCLOSED ON

Whatever. Foreclosures could also have something to do with job loss under Bush.

Lowest Poverty Rate in Two Decades

OK BUT WHAT WAS IT BEFORE?? AMERICA HAS A LOW POVERTY RATE ANYWAY.  CLINTON HAD NOTHIG TO DO WITH THIS.  THIS ISNT HAITI

No, it’s America, and the fact our poverty rates are as high as they are is shameful. But gains were made:

The poverty rate has fell from 15.1 percent in 1993 to 12.7 percent in 1998. That was the lowest poverty rate since 1979 and the largest five-year drop in poverty in nearly 30 years (1965-1970). The African-American poverty rate dropped from 33.1 percent in 1993 to 26.1 percent in 1998 -- the lowest level ever recorded and the largest five-year drop in African-American poverty in more than a quarter century (1967-1972). The poverty rate for Hispanics was at the lowest level since 1979, and dropped to 25.6 percent in 1998. [Poverty In the United States: 1998, Bureau of the Census, 9/30/99]

Largest Five-Year Drop in Child Poverty Rate Since the '60s

ARE THESE CHILDREN WORKING SOMEWHER??

Means children living in poverty. Unlike their parents, kids don’t have a choice as to their economic status.

Under President Clinton and Vice President Gore, child poverty declined from 22.7 percent in 1993 to 18.9 percent in 1998 -- the biggest five-year drop in nearly 30 years. The poverty rate for African-American children fell from 46.1 percent in 1993 to 36.7 percent in 1998 , the lowest level in 20 years and the biggest five-year drop on record. The rate also fell for Hispanic children, from 36.8 percent to 34.4 percent – and is now 6.5 percentage points lower than it was in 1993.[Poverty In the United States: 1998, Census Bureau, 9/30/99]

Increased the Minimum Wage

What, no comment?

Lowest Crime Rates in 25 Years

BASE ON POLICIES IMPLEMENTED BY REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTS

I don’t think so. Crime rates were higher under Reagan and Bush. In fact, GOP tried and blocked several gun control legislative bill amendments during Clinton.

When President Clinton and Vice President Gore took office in 1993, the violent crime rate in America had more than quadrupled during the previous three decades. America experienced the longest continuous drop in crime on record. The overall crime rate was the lowest in 25 years, and in 1999 crime fell for the eighth consecutive year nationwide. Violent crime rate fell 7 percent in 1999 and 27 percent since 1993. Since 1993, the murder rate is down more than 25 percent to its lowest point since 1967, and gun violence has declined by more than 35 percent. [Bureau of Justice Statistics, 1998 National Crime Victimization Survey; Federal Bureau of Investigation, Uniform Crime Reports for the United States 1998, 1999; FY 2001 Budget, p. 107]

Also:

Since the President signed the Brady bill in 1993, more than 600,000 felons, fugitives, and other prohibited persons have been stopped from buying guns. Gun crime declined 40 percent from 1992 to 2000.

Putting 100,000 More Police on the Streets

WHERE-JUST A STAT IT MEANS NOTHING - HOW DO YOU PROVE THIS

See below, check on Justice Dept. records for proof.

In 1999, ahead of schedule and under budget, the Clinton-Gore Administration met its commitment to fund an additional 100,000 police officers for our communities. As a part of the COPS Program, the President announced a distressed neighborhood grant program to increase community policing in high-crime and underserved neighborhoods. To help keep crime at record lows, in fall 1999, the President won funding for the first installment toward his goal to hire up to 50,000 more officers by 2005. In 2000, the Clinton-Gore budget included over $1 billion to continue the successful COPS initiative to hire more officers, hire new community prosecutors, give police the tools and technology they need to fight crime, and to fund community-wide crime fighting efforts. [Justice Department, COPS Program, 5/12/99; National Economic Council, 11/18/99; FY 2001 Budget, p. 109]

More Than Half a Million Felons, Fugitives and Domestic Abusers Denied Guns

THIS IS A LIE- ARE YOU TELLING ME THAT SOMEONE THAT WANTED A GUN TO COMMIT A CRIME WAS UNABLE TO GET BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE BREAKING A LAW???

More reasons why a surplus is good. All of these programs were cut since Bush. A convicted felon cannot buy a gun legally, that’s the law. Also, a little thing called the Brady Bill passed by Clinton helps. Where is the lie?

President Clinton’s FY2001 budget called for greater supervision of the 500,000 inmates who left prison and reentered communities in order to address community safety concerns, lower recidivism rates and promote responsible parenting. This initiative included $60 million to create "reentry partnerships" and "reentry courts", complemented by $75 million for Responsible Reintegration for Young Offenders grants from the Department of Labor and $10 million for substance abuse and mental health services through the Department of Health and Human Services.

Lowest Number of People on Welfare Since 1969

DUE TO WELFARE REFOMS PASSED BY A REPUB. CONGRESS

Actually the bill that did this was bipartisan, but it was Clinton that signed the bill and put it into effect.

Overhauling the Welfare System with the Personal Responsibility Act: In 1996, the President signed the landmark bipartisan welfare reform law that has dramatically changed the nation’s welfare system into one that requires work in exchange for time-limited assistance

Too many things to put down, but here is a link you can check out that lists all the Administration’s accomplishments with welfare reform.

Nearly Doubled Child Support Collections

NOT A PRESIDENTIAL ISSUE

Every American issue is a Presidential issue. If its not, then all the better for him to do something about it:

President Clinton ordered the U.S. Justice Department to conduct the first-ever crackdown on deadbeat parents who refuse to accept financial responsibility for their own children.

Signed an Executive Order cracking down on federal employees who owe child support.

Collected a record $10 billion in child support through enforcement in 1994 alone.

Child Abuse Declines for Five Years in a Row

BILL DID THIS???  WHAT??

Clinton signed the National Child Protection Act in 1993, also known as informally as “The Oprah Bill” for her support of it, which included the following benefits:

·          Establishes a national database of all indictments and convictions on child abuse and sex offense charges, violent crimes, arson, and felony drug charges.

  • Allows all businesses or organizations who employ a childcare provider to ask a state agency to check this database for all job applicants.
  • States would be required to report crime records to this database, giving highest priority to reporting child abuse crimes.
  • The bill also seeks to ensure that the rights of job applicants are protected. It establishes that reports may only be released on applicants who provide written permission for a background check to be made, and allows for background checks to be appealed

Enacted Single Largest Investment in Health Care for Children since 1965

LIE

Lie? I don’t think so. All of this was eventually struck down by a GOP congress and Bush, who incidentally has NO plan to insure uninsured children.

The five year, $24 billion State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) would have provided health care coverage for up to five million children. Two million children were enrolled, and in October 1999 President Clinton announced new outreach initiatives to enroll millions more uninsured, eligible children. In 2000, the President launched a nationwide "Insure Kids Now" campaign that brought together major TV and radio networks, healthcare organizations, religious groups and other community-based organizations to help enroll more children in the Children's Health Insurance Program, with the goal of enrolling 5 million of the estimated 10 million children eligible for health insurance under CHIP within 5 years. 2000  budget included several of Vice President Gore's proposals to accelerate enrollment of children in CHIP. [White House Fact Sheet, 1/11/00; White House, 2/23/99]

Raised Child Immunization Rates to All Time High

MORE KIDS-MORE SHOTS

Raised immunization RATES, not shot count. More shots for more kids.

Childhood immunization coverage rates in 1998 were the highest ever recorded. 90 percent of toddlers in 1996, 1997 and 1998 received the most critical doses of each of the routinely recommended vaccines, surpassing the President’s 1993 goal. Because childhood vaccination levels in the United States were at an all-time high, disease and death from diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, measles, mumps, rubella and Hib were at or near record lows. There was only one reported case of diphtheria, 100 reported cases of measles, and no reported cases of wild poliovirus for 1998. [HHS Fact Sheet, 9/23/99; HHS Fact Sheet, 12/31/99]

Created Four New National Monuments

WHAT??

The Clinton-Gore Administration created four new national monuments: Grand Staircase-Escalante, protecting spectacular red rock canyonlands in Utah; Grand Canyon-Parashant, protecting deep canyons, mountains and buttes on the north rim of the Grand Canyon; Agua Fria, protecting extensive prehistoric ruins in Arizona; the California Coastal monument, protecting thousands of islands, rocks and reefs along the California coast. The Administration also expanded Pinnacles National Monument in California to better protect the area's unusual rock formations.

Smallest Government Workforce Since the 1960's

TOTAL OUTRIGHT FABRICATION

Whatever, facts are facts, from www.govinfo.library.unt.edu:

  • Reduced the size of federal civilian workforce by 426,200 positions between January 1993 and September 2000.1   Thirteen of 14 departments reduced in size; Justice grew because of Administration’s fight against crime and drugs. The government workforce was for the first time the smallest it had been since the Eisenhower Administration.
  • Action on more than two-thirds of NPR recommendations resulted in savings of more than $136 billion.
  • Cut government the right way by eliminating what wasn’t needed – bloated headquarters, layers of managers, outdated field offices, obsolete red tape and rules. For example, cut 78,000 managers government wide and some layers by late 1999.
  • Cut 640,000 pages of internal agency rules (equivalent to 125 cases of copy paper).
  • Closed nearly 2,000 obsolete field offices and eliminated 250 programs and agencies, like the Tea-Tasters Board, the Bureau of Mines, and wool and mohair subsidies.
  • Procurement reform led to the expanded use of credit cards for small item purchases, saving about $250 million a year in processing costs.

Lowest Government Spending Since 1974

ANOTHER TOTAL LIE- I CHALLENGE HIM TO PROVE THIS

I challenge you to disprove THIS. Read it and weep.

At 18.7 percent, Federal Government spending as a share of the Gross Domestic Product was at its lowest level since 1974. See below BEA graph and notice the rise since 2000:

I'm Missing Bill Clinton

Just watched a show on Canadian TV. There was a black comedian who said he misses Bill Clinton. "Yep, that's right - I miss Bill Clinton! He was the closest thing we ever got to having a black man as President.

Number 1- He played the sax.
Number 2- He smoked weed.
Number 3-He had his way with ugly white women.

Even now? look at him... his wife works, and he doesn't And, he gets a check from the government, every month.

Manufacturers announced today that they will be stocking America's shelves this week with "Clinton Soup," in honor of one of the nations' most distinguished men. It consists primarily of a weenie in hot water.

Chrysler Corporation is adding a new car to its line to honor Bill Clinton. The Dodge Drafter will be in production in Canada this year.

When asked what he thought about foreign affairs, Clinton replied, "I don't know, I never had one."

American Indians nicknamed Bill Clinton "Walking Eagle" because he is so full of crap he can't fly.

Clinton lacked only three things to become one of America's finest leaders: integrity, vision, wisdom.

Clinton was doing the work of three men: Larry, Curly and Moe.

The Clinton revised judicial oath:

"I solemnly swear to tell the truth as I know it, the whole truth as I believe it to be, and nothing but what I think you need to know."

Clinton will be recorded in history as the only President to do Hanky Panky between Bushes
